What is an unlocked phone? - it's a phone that you buy and can use with (almost) any carrier. Seems simple, yet it isn't. Most carriers use a GSM network(97 percent according to MyWorldPhone, whom I'm quoting here) and Verizon and Sprint use CDMA. The bottom line is that the major carriers give you a discount on the phone and it's locked to their network. If you buy an unlocked phone, you pay full price for the phone but enjoy the luxury of using any carrier you want.
